Glendive Medical Center Nursing Supervisor - Day in Glendive, Montana

The Acute Care Nurse Supervisor (Day) is responsible for directing, leading, and managing the operations of assigned shift in accordance with critical access hospital regulations, standards of practice, and organizational policy.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Makes shift assignments, taking into consideration patient care needs and staff competencies.

  • Monitors all functions throughout the unit during assigned shift, assisting staff to ensure all patient care needs are met.

  • Ensures all staff fulfill all duties in a timely and complete manner.

  • Consistently promotes teamwork while providing support and direction to staff to facilitate quality patient care.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversees all patient admits, transfers, and discharges taking place during assigned shift.

  • Evaluates the quality of patient care and contributes to the interdisciplinary plan of care by conducting unit, interdisciplinary and informal rounds, through direct staff observation and review of nursing documentation.

  • Promotes interdepartmental relationships and coordinates patient care with physicians and advanced practice providers.

  • Performs staff annual evaluations, performs staff education, represents the department on committees, and/or participates in projects as directed by the DON and ADON.

  • Must be able to recognize clinical signs of a significant change in condition, quickly initiate emergency cares/resuscitation, call for a rapid response or code blue as indicated, and recall appropriate on call care team members as necessary.

  • Must have adequate knowledge of hospital and community resources to provide education and appropriate referrals to patients/families.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to function independently as the primary nurse in all care areas within the department.

  • Maintains current knowledge related to patient care for all patient populations served.

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills in order to provide clear direction/delegation of shift responsibilities.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong customer service skills are required in this role

  • Ability to mentor and foster staff development.

    Education and Experience:

  • Must have at least two years of current clinical acute care experience. Management/leadership experience preferred.

  • Current license as a registered nurse to practice in Montana or a compact license with multi-state privileges required

  • BSN preferred.

  • All applicable certifications must be obtained and maintained as an RN; at least one nationally recognized certification encouraged.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Need to be able to cope with stress, long hours, staff conflict resolution.

  • Help with moving or transferring patients, assisting with patient cares, and moving equipment as needed.
