Rowan University Assistant/Associate Professor of Accounting in Glassboro, New Jersey

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Accounting, Department of Accounting and Finance, William G. Rohrer College of Business – 10-month full-time tenure track position.

Department and College Information:

The Accounting Program at Rowan offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, along with a Certificate of Graduate Studies in Accounting, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Accounting and an MBA concentration in Accounting. It is housed within the Department of Accounting & Finance, which also offers a BS in Finance, a Master of Science in Finance, and an MBA concentration in Finance. The department has approximately 900 accounting and finance majors, making it one of the largest accounting programs in the Philadelphia/Southern New Jersey region.

The Accounting Program aims to enhance the integration of computing technology and analytical skills through impactful academic research, curriculum and pedagogical development, while continuing to build the accounting, leadership and communication skills demanded by the profession. We continuously evaluate our curriculum for currency, and we have recently introduced new course offerings in the field of data analytics. We have a strong program of professional development for our students, embrace teaching innovations, and maintain excellent ties to the regional professional community.

We seek collegial candidates who possess the passion and ability to produce high-quality research for prestigious academic journals. We welcome research interests in various accounting domains including but not limited to financial accounting, managerial accounting, audit, tax, assurance, accounting information system, and governance. We also value all rigorous research methods, such as theoretical, empirical, experimental, and fieldwork approaches. The successful candidate should demonstrate the potential to establish a strong track record of impactful scholarly research, as evidenced by published articles, submitted manuscripts, and/or working papers aimed at top-tier accounting journals.

The department resides in the Rohrer College of Business (RCB), and the RCB is accredited by the International Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). As of Fall 2023, the RCB had approximately 2,400 undergraduate and masters’ level students. The College overall, and the Accounting and Finance Department in particular, are actively engaged in research and scholarship, aligning with the university’s transition to a research institution. The RCB currently subscribes to many platforms and data bases, including WRDS (e.g., Compustat, CRSP, Audit Analytics, ExecuComp), Capital IQ, Sustainalytics, and Bloomberg – to support its research active faculty. The College is committed to investing in research support tools for faculty, which includes acquiring new databases and providing travel support funding.

Position Description:

The ideal candidate will have a proven record (for an Associate Professor position) of a national/international recognized and externally funded research program, or outstanding potential (for an Assistant Professor position) for developing and maintaining a sustainable and nationally recognized research program. Responsibilities also include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, participating in assurance of learning activities, mentoring upper division students, engaging actively in department, college, university, and professional service, and participating in business outreach activities. While courses are offered using various delivery modes, including traditional classrooms, hybrid, and online, candidates are expected to teach live, in-classroom from our Glassboro, New Jersey campus.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Accounting from an AACSB accredited institution by July 1, 2024 is required. We seek excellence in teaching and research. Professional certification in accounting is considered a plus (e.g., CPA, CMA, CIA).

The Department of Accounting and Finance is one of three academic departments within the Rohrer College of Business. The other two academic departments are the Department of Marketing and Business Information Systems, and the Department of Management and The School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
