City of Glasgow Street Laborer in Glasgow, Kentucky

Position Purpose

Under general direction, performs semi-skilled and routine work related to the landscaping of city properties and streets, as well as in the processing and collection of leaf and related refuse.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  • Mowing and trimming city properties and rights of way.

  • Removes leaves and related materials from city streets and city property.

  • Assists with the collection of trash pickup when necessary.

  • Picks up litter.

  • Operates light equipment such as chippers, bush hogs, tractors, and other similar equipment.

  • Assists in minor repair and routine maintenance of equipment.

  • Drives dump Trailers.

  • Loads and unloads materials.

  • Participates in a variety of repair, maintenance, and construction activities.

  • Performs other work as required.

Qualifications

Training and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an equivalent GED certificate.

Special Requirement(s):

  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

  • Safety-sensitive position is subject to passing a pre-employment drug screen test.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the operation of trucks and other assigned pieces of equipment.

  • Working knowledge of traffic laws and ordinances.

  • Ability to operate equipment skillfully and safely.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Willingness to perform routine manual work.

  • Ability to lift heavy objects.

  • Possess stamina for continual daily work.

  • Ability to understand simple and oral instructions.

  • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.
