Kanaan Communications, LLC Supervisor Telecommunications Construction in Gilroy, California

Overview and Essential Functions

Golden State Utility is seeking a Construction Supervisor for our Gilroy, CA location for work in the Gilroy and Morgan Hill area. The construction supervisor will oversee telecommunications field activities including training, leading and developing underground construction crews, and providing onsite construction supervision controlling all aspects of day to day field operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide daily guidance and coordinate construction crew activities

  • Identify gaps and delays on jobs, take necessary steps to keep jobs on track

  • Reports construction progress daily to the Construction Manager.

  • Conduct pre-construction walks.

  • Review and interpret proposal drawings and specifications

  • Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials to job site

  • Lead and direct daily activities of Supervisors, Foremen, Operators and Laborers

  • Supervise inspections of projects

  • Investigate complaints and take appropriate action to correct deficiencies

  • Help resolve contract disputes and arrange any necessary order changes

  • Work with contractors to complete project within the given budget and timeframe

  • Assist with Estimating

  • Prepare and submit redlined construction drawings and documents upon job completion

  • May operate various equipment as needed (i.e. trencher, bore machine, backhoe, jackhammer, etc.)

  • Communicate with customers, vendors, employees, and public agencies

  • Assigned company vehicle. Drives to remote job sites daily

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Telecommunications construction equipment. Aerial cable installation knowledge a plus.

  • Working knowledge of trenching, placing duct, pulling cable, locating and verifying underground utilities before construction begins, restoration.

  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot problems

  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Strong understanding of OSHA requirements and a priority for safety

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely; written and verbal. Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.

  • Knowledge of engineering prints and ability to understand and interpret

  • Computer proficiency with Google, Excel and Word

  • Technology proficiency: intermediate computer skills and experience using electronic devices including iPhone and iPad

  • Valid Driver’s License- CDL Class A Preferred

    Experience and Education:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in construction leadership, telecommunications preferred

  • Preferred : Certified in OSHA Competent Person, Certification in OSHA 30-hour construction course, trench and excavation, confined space

    Physical demands:

  • Working outdoors subject to inclement weather conditions.

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.

  • Stand and walk for long periods of time.

  • Sitting for periods of time during travel to jobsites.

  • Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, work in close proximity to vehicular traffic.

  • Willing to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required by the workload
