Job Description

International Flavor & Fragrances (IFF) is currently seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Specialist to join our site in Gibson City, IL (halfway between Champaign and Bloomington). IFF is a market-leading global business serving customers across the food, beverage, taste, nourish, microbial control and pharma markets with innovative, healthy, and sustainable solutions spanning a broad portfolio.

Under the direction of the site EH&S Manager, the EH&S Specialist is responsible for supporting the overall implementation of plant systems to ensure excellent EH&S performance and compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate EH&S standards. The primary focus of the role will be supporting the plant environmental programs, although support of additional EH&S programs will also be expected. If you are an outgoing and self-motivated individual with good attention to detail and strong MS Excel skills, then this is the role for you!

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary environmental point-of-contact for the facility and responsible for maintaining all site environmental programs including those related to wastewater, solid waste, hazardous waste, air emissions, and storm water.

  • Overall ownership of the site NPDES and CAAPP permits, including coordinating the renewal process with corporate resources.

  • Overall ownership of the site’s ISO 14001 program.

  • Prepare all required Agency reports, including those related to the Boiler MACT, CAAPP Permit, NPDES Permit, NESHAP reporting, Annual Emissions Report, TRI Report, Greenhouse Gas reporting, TierII reporting, and internal corporate reporting via Resource Advisor.

  • Maintain all required site compliance plans including the SPCC, SWPPP, and FRP.

  • Gather data and maintain systems necessary to track information used in safety, health, and environmental reporting and to drive improvement in EH&S performance.

  • Manage site waste profiles and waste shipments.

  • Assist the EH&S Manager and site personnel with improvements to EH&S systems and help drive continuous improvement.

  • Participate in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party audits as needed.

  • Participate in corporate and business EH&S networks and leverage best practices.

Job Requirements

  • Five or more years EH&S experience or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment with rigorous safety and environmental requirements.

  • Experience implementing & maintaining site wide EH&S related programs.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental Agency requirements.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability to influence teams and resolve conflicts in support of organizational goals.

  • Strong data management and analytical skills – proficient with MS Excel.

The following are preferred but not required:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field

  • Understanding of ISO requirements
