Perdue Farms, Inc. Diesel Fleet Technician in Georgetown, Delaware

Perdue Transportation Incorporated (PTI) is the private fleet for Perdue Foods. Summary

This position requires the level of knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose, repair and order parts for vehicles and equipment. This individual must have the ability to effectively work and communicate with employees and customers. Requirements include daily safety inspections, minimal reworks, and maintaining production standards. Attention will be on timeliness and quality of repairs. Required to maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Three openings:

Wed- Sat 6am to 430pm

Wed- Sat 7am to 530pm

Wed-Sat 530pm to 4am

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Will be responsible for satisfactorily completing safety training and annual technical training as determined by fleet manager.

  • Operate equipment to verify proper operation; identify problem and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps and determine corrective action through the inspections of failed parts.

  • Utilize shop computer for the diagnosis of equipment for Mack, Volvo, International, Hendrickson and any OEM Supplier as needed.

  • Ability to utilize applicable software and pass ongoing online training.

  • Must have appropriate mechanic tool set.

  • Must follow all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations and use appropriate safety equipment.

  • Ensures work orders are properly completed and work repair task description is accurate to work completed.

  • Ensure safe use of power and hand-held tools.

  • Move vehicles safely between job and work area.

  • Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from others.

  • Proficiently remove, clean, repair, reinstall and adjust vehicle components, such as:

Brakes and Air System

Electrical

Driveline components

Suspension and Drivetrain

Hydraulics

Internal engine components

Scan tool/laptop proficient

Engine emission components

Cab and chassis

Welding

Preventative Maintenance

External Engine Components

HVAC

  • Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from others.

  • Perform Road calls and emergency services as necessary in all weather.

  • Select appropriate course of action for repairs.

  • Evaluate completed work prior to release.

  • Ability to train and lead other technicians in completing repair assignments.

Minimum Education

Required : High School graduate or equivalent

Preferred : Minimum one-year technical training at an Accredited Technical School.

Experience Requirements

  • 1+ years experience

  • Must have a valid driver's' license. CDL A preferred

  • Demonstrated experience monitoring and meeting PM schedules and operating repair shop equipment

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent communication skills, bringing demonstrated abilities of building solid relationships with all levels

  • Some computer skills

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, lifting of light and heavy objects. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 lbs. Required to sit, stand, walk use hands to finger, handle, feel, talk, hear, to reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and smell. Must be able to lay on back on a mechanic's dolly to work underneath motor vehicle equipment. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Associate must be free of any conditions which result in temporary loss of consciousness or ability to reason. Work is performed with exposure to noise, chemicals, noxious odors gases, poor ventilation, inclement weather, dirt, grease, dust and machinery with moving parts requiring use of protective devices.
