Finger Lakes Health Long Term Care Activities Volunteer in Geneva, New York

Goals and Objectives

To assist the staff of the Living Centers as they organize and deliver activities to the residents.

Qualifications

  • Cheerful. Enjoys interaction with people.

  • Able to follow directions, work independently, and as part of the activities team.

  • Dependable.

  • Recognizes the importance of and supports residents’ dignity.

  • Demonstrates care and compassion.

    Hours

    To be determined by Activities Director. Primarily weekdays between hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m .

    Reports To

    Activities Supervisor or designated Living Center staff.

    Organizational Responsibilities

  • Completes volunteer orientation. Completes computer based learning modules and health review annually. Completes a department orientation.

  • Swipes in using badge to KRONOS time clock to log being on-site and to track each volunteer shift.

  • Notifies designated Living Center staff if unable to volunteer at scheduled time.

  • Follows the policies and procedures of Finger Lakes Health as outlined in the Computer-Based Learning and department orientation.

  • Maintains CONFIDENTIALITY and follow HIPAA guidelines at all times.

    Volunteer Role/ Responsibilities

  • Assists staff in setting up for staff planned activities.

  • Delivering mail/newspapers as requested.

  • Provides companionship, conversation and 1:1 visitation as assigned.

  • Assists staff in transportation of residents to group activities.

  • Calls games, assists and encouraging residents to play.

  • Assists Activities staff giving out prizes, as available.

  • Assists staff delivering refreshments – must be with Activities staff – cannot serve independently.

  • Assists staff with clean-up following activity, -- sanitizing tables, chairs and equipment.

  • Select volunteers may be engaged to provide animal therapy visits in concert with activities policies and protocols.

    Long Term Care Host Department will educate volunteer on facility guidelines related to infection control practices and protocols. Activities staff will notify volunteer if shift is canceled.
