The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

JOB SUMMARY :

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the educational activities for the assigned service and participates in meeting the educational needs for patient care service in order to provide educational support to staff and patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Collaborates with Nurse Managers and staff to assess the learning needs and competencies.

  • Develops, implements and evaluates educational plans/programs utilizing adult learning theory and utilizes methods, measurements and tools to evaluate achievement of learning goals.

  • Serves as a consultant for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development.

  • Participates in the coordination and continuity of orientation programs.

  • Practices and promotes patient/family advocacy and facilitates the maintenance of ethical practice.

  • Practices and promotes positive guest and peer relations.

  • Practices and promotes quality improvement activities.

  • Demonstrates a high level of productivity and dependability.

  • Provides leadership and promotes teamwork within the unit(s), department and services.

  • Actively promotes the development of others.

  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.

  • Performs related duties as required.

EQUIPMENT :

Standard patient care equipment, related supplies, and mechanicals devices.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

  • Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area.

  • Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.

  • Mild to moderate physical effort may be required such as walking, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients.

  • Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.

  • Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate enough to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as: reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal communication.

  • Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs.

  • Shift work may be required.

  • Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury.

  • May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients.

  • May be required to be on standby and work extended shifts in situations deemed necessary by a designated Executive Director and/or Nursing Director.

May be required to work within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center.

Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :

Registered Nurse (RN) with Bachelors in Nursing or related field. Four (4) years of full time clinical RN experience. Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas.

This is an hourly non-benefit eligible position and is limited to a maximum of 19 hours per week.
