City of Garland, TX Tech Services Page (Regular PT) in Garland, Texas

Responsible for working the receiving/shipping dock area to receive, sort, unpack and verify shipments against packing slips, and invoices for new library materials and to manage deliveries to other library personnel for additional processing. Also, responsible for simple mending of library materials, and shelving of incoming periodicals and newspapers issues.

Target Hiring Range: $12.50/hr - $13.90.hr

  • Receive, unpack shipments, and verify accuracy of incoming shipments.

  • Verify packing slip matches order, identify damaged items, and identify missing items.

  • Process outgoing shipments.

  • Sort and deliver incoming shipment items to appropriate staff or department.

  • Processes/verify library materials as needed including covers, stamps, barcodes, spine labels, and RFID tags.

  • May distribute new magazines and newspaper issues.

  • Assist with returning materials to their appropriate place on the shelves, according to alphabetical or numeric filing.

  • Maintains inventory of supplies used and needed in department.

  • Provide basic level assistance for library users and refer users to appropriate library staff.

  • May serve as the designated back-up box truck driver when necessary.

 High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Education/ Experience:

  • Experience in a library environment

  • Experience in shipping and receiving

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of standard library filing systems

  • Skill operating a computer

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically

  • Ability to accurately read numbers and letters

  • Ability to understand and implement oral and written directions

  • Ability to drive a box truck

 Valid Class C Texas driver's license

The incumbent works in a typical office environment, but some physical labor is required. Physical tasks will include lifting, squatting, bending, stooping, reaching overhead and carrying supplies, up to 30 lbs., as needed to accomplish the tasks of the activity on a daily basis. Exposure to dust and travel to various sites may occur. Must also be able to utilize keyboard and peripherals, handheld mobile devices, and multi-function office phones.

REQUIRED WORK HOURS: The incumbent is required to work 19 hours per week, from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
