Bench Mechanic

Work with general supervision, plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment, and products by performing the following duties.

    Job Summary

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.

  • Performs all deburring operations.

  • Strip remaining maskant and silstic from finished chem mill parts.

  • Removes burrs and sharp edges by use of various hand tools and materials such as files and edge breakers.

  • Smoothes edges and removes build ups with air or electric equipment using abrasive disk and sleeves.

  • Operates burring equipment using countersink, grinding wheels, burring rolls, bench grinders, rotary files, drill presses and jitterbug.

  • Control thickness by using ultrasonic gages and micrometers calipers, scales to work to close tolerances +/-.002.

  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.

  • Performs other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in project committees.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend instructions such as blue prints and shop drawings, chem. mill templates with an emphasis on chemical milling features, excess and special conditions.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Must be able to comply with specific safety policies.

  • Read and understand internal procedures and policies.

  • Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions.

  • Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.

  • Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions, and simple software programs with assistance.

  • Critical thinking skills and good decision-making thought processes

  • Ability to effectively communicate among all levels within the organization.

    Required Experience and Education

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

  • 1 – 3 years of experience preferred

Base Compensation: USD 18.00 - 20.00 Paid Hourly
