Job Description Summary

The Staff Engineer for Secondary Flows Thermal Technology will be a member of the GE Aerospace Thermal Systems Design organization and will be a technical leader in advancing the state of the art for secondary flows applied technology and sub-component development, including advanced seals and complex fluid delivery systems. This role focuses on developing efficient solutions for managing secondary flows across different engine components for the RISE Open Fan program. Responsibilities include utilizing heat transfer and fluid mechanics analysis tools and established design principles to propose thermal systems that meet program requirements.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • As part of GE Aerospace’s RISE Open Fan technology development and engine demonstration efforts, execute analysis, design, test, and integration of advanced seal and fluid to meet business standards, established procedures, and program requirements.

  • Manage resources assigned to the project, prioritize activities to deliver program objectives on time, while meeting cost and quality requirements.

  • Execute and independently guide the implementation of secondary flows thermal design programs/projects.

  • Independently perform thermal analysis using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and/or finite element analysis (FEA) tools.

  • Represent the thermal systems design team in the coordination with other technical disciplines, with understanding of engine integration at the system level.

  • Manage and drive research and technology activities targeting next-generation secondary flows management, including planning of external funding proposals.

  • Lead technical reviews and support design best practices interfacing with the global GE Aerospace engineering team.

  • Participate in problem solving and innovation initiatives.

  • Identify improvement opportunities and apply Lean tools to remove waste..

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering with very significant level of industrial experience in the field of secondary flows or thermal systems design.

  • Strong understanding of the physics and principles associated with thermal systems and turbomachinery design.

  • Proven track record in delivering on complex programs and ability to work in cross-functional global team in multi-cultural environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to advance the technology state of the art and ability to generate innovative solutions.

  • Fluency in English.

Desired Characteristics

  • Hands-on experience in thermal management, mechanical design, computational fluid dynamics for thermal systems design.

  • Experience in scale and full-scale testing, including test planning, instrumentation, test execution, and data analysis.
