GE Aerospace Advanced Lead Engineer – Mechanical Design (m/f/d) – remote option in Garching, Germany

Job Description Summary

In Advanced Mechanical Design, we design and test innovative solutions for the future of our business. In this role, you will help us make advances in aircraft component design, including but not limited to the low-pressure turbine (LPT) module. This role is a hardware design role and is vital to the development of our next generation of aircraft engines like the RISE Open Fan engine program. This position has the flexibility of a fully remote working setup or an optional hybrid schedule (working in the office / working from home).

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • As part of GE Aerospace's RISE program, develop mechanical designs for assigned hardware that satisfy program and internal design requirements, specifically in the context of the Open Fan technology maturation and engine demonstration efforts.

  • Integrate collaboratively with global and diverse teams from multiple disciplinary functions such as thermal design, aero design, and systems design.

  • Communicate risks within their designs to appropriate stakeholders to help drive to collective decisions on how best to proceed as a diverse team.

  • Create innovative solutions that benefit the assigned hardware and overall module to meet broad design objectives.

  • The person in this role will complete design reviews, drawing releases, quality requirements, assembly analyses, amongst other activities.

  • Suggest areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches / programs to make those advancements.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline with industrial experience in the field of mechanical design.

  • Proven track record in delivering on complex programs and ability to work in cross-functional global team in multi-cultural environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to advance the technology state of the art and ability to generate innovative solutions.

  • Fluency in English.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in solving mechanical design problems.

  • Experience in mechanical design for aerospace propulsion systems such as rotors, structures, or airfoil component design.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Passion for technical excellence and technology advancement.

  • German language.
