JOB DESCRIPTION:

Vice Chair, Clinical Research: The UTMB Department of Medicine (DOM) is recruiting for a leadership position responsible for overseeing and advancing the clinical research activities within the department. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the Vice Chair of Clinical Research will provide strategic vision, operational leadership, and mentorship to faculty, fellows, and staff engaged in clinical research endeavors. This position requires a dynamic individual with a strong background in clinical research, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to advancing medical knowledge and patient care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the clinical research portfolio of the Department of Medicine.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to faculty, fellows, and staff involved in clinical research activities.

  • Foster interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships to promote innovative clinical research initiatives.

  • Oversee the development and submission of grant proposals and clinical research protocols.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical standards in all clinical research activities.

  • Collaborate with institutional stakeholders to optimize research infrastructure and resources.

  • Mentor and support junior faculty, fellows, and residents in their clinical research pursuits.

  • Facilitate the dissemination of research findings through presentations, publications, and other scholarly activities.

  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees related to clinical research and academic affairs.

  • Represent the Department of Medicine in external forums and professional organizations related to clinical research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD or MD degree with board certification in a relevant medical specialty.

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Texas.

  • Demonstrated track record of successful clinical research including grant funding and publications.

  • Previous leadership experience in academic medicine or clinical research administration preferred.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of clinical research.
