Job Description:

Develops web-based applications and sites for internal or external research, program and department support, and college marketing activity. Engages in creating user-centered web-based applications for a variety of users and platforms. This position is time-limited and soft-funded.

Responsibilities:

Web Development Coordination and Measurement

  • Create specifications and develop customized features of the College CMS properties via theme editing and augmentation. Provide guidance and direction to web content editors in the use of these features and with the use of source-code management tools, track and resolve issues relating to their use. Meet with stakeholders to assist in the creation of new content for the specific purpose of communicating the achievements and goals of the College, and the activities of its Faculty. Refine content and implement changes, keeping within UF policy guidelines and usability standards as a consistent look and feel throughout all web properties. Provide analytics related to the impact of implemented marketing campaigns, and other communications products/output, including campaign-specific website design and build projects. Promote ideation in the web design field to improve site usability and productivity in developing and/or maintaining websites.

Development Services Liaison

  • This position is responsible for management of ETC development environments including Git source management, issue tracking and production versioning. This involves basic Linux server management, Apache web server configuration and tuning, and communication and coordination with production servers under the supervision of the Systems Administrator. Operations should be in keeping with College and Unit level best practices including data security protocols, disaster remediation processes, and the concept of minimal privilege while serving the needs of the College and Unit development teams.

Research Collaboration and Prototyping

  • This position should collaborate with College and Center faculty to build web and mobile applications to support their research efforts through data collection and analysis including expertise on data mining methodologies in order to help the faculty expand their projects' capabilities. This includes designing and developing custom software solutions to provide faculty and other stakeholders with the information required to better identify research trends and patterns to inform decision-making.

End-User Support

  • This position provides support to College program coordinators, graduate assistants and others responsible for updating website information through the College CMS. In addition training and support should be provided as needed on understanding the processes and maximize the benefits of locally developed applications. This includes response and redirection of end-user questions and problems in order to quickly resolve client issues.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Operations E-Learning, Technology, and Communications, the Director of Operations at E-Learning, Technology and Communications, and the Dean of the College of Education.

Expected Salary:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and three years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or web design and online communications or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Minimum of three years experience in developing websites and promotional activities.

  • Two or more years of website development experience in Wordpress CMS, preferably with experience in large Wordpress multisite installs and working with child themes.
