Job Description:

For the Fall 2024 semester (August 22 - December 14), we are hiring 3 student assistants to work at our Service Desk during our operational hours. Current need is for 12 hours a week. If granted Federal Work Study award for Spring 2025, there is opportunity to continue working at the Architecture and Fine Arts Library past this Fall semester.

The AFA Library is looking for customer service-oriented students to join our Service Desk team. Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Staffing the Service Desk

  • Searching the UF Library Catalog to determine the location of library materials and if they are available for loan to patrons

  • Loaning and returning of library materials

  • Assisting patrons with Course Reserves, printers, scanners, and workstations in the library, and answering basic questions regarding their library accounts and policies

  • Answering telephone calls and providing directional assistance

  • Assisting patrons with general questions and referring them to other staff members when needed

  • Organizing and re-shelving circulating library materials

  • Patrolling the library to collect browsed library materials, and reporting maintenance or technical equipment issues to supervisor

  • Assisting supervisor with collections projects (re-shelving, dusting, organizing, and shifting sections of the collection)

AFA Library Location: UF Fine Arts Complex, 201 Fine Arts A, Gainesville, FL 32611

AFA Library 2024 hours:

Monday-Thursday 8am-10pm Friday 8am-5pm Saturday 1pm-5pm Sunday 2pm-10pm

Expected Salary:

$12.50/hour

Minimum Requirements:

  • Federal Work Study (FWS) Award for Fall 2024 semester

  • Punctual and reliable

  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated

  • Good communication skills and customer-service oriented

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs/ able to climb flights of stairs
