MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in biological, physical, natural, or agricultural sciencesandtwo (2) years of related professional experience;or

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university as described aboveandone (1) year of related professional experience as described above;or

A doctorate from an accredited college or university as described above.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

JOB DUTIES:

This is a vital support position within the Florida Forest Service (FFS) Forest Health Section with multiple and sometimes independent cross disciplinary field, office and laboratory responsibilities. Work assigned to this position includes, but is not limited to, technical and logistical support on projects (especially surveys) dealing with indigenous and non-native exotic insects, pathogens and invasive plant pests threatening Florida’s forest resources.

Coordinate regional and statewide surveys of/for forest pest activity and impacts.

Prepare and manage databases and maps of pest occurrences/impacts, linking and collaborating as appropriate with other agencies/organizations such as the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service, other state agencies, non-governmental organizations, and state universities.

Provide related field and laboratory assistance to Forest Health Staff Specialists, FFS personnel and the general public regarding identification, evaluation and occurrence of insect, pathogens and non-native invasive plant pests.

Assist with the implementation of new Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies to enhance forest health monitoring activities, including training FFS field personnel in their use as assigned.

Prepare and deliver informational and/or training presentations to the public and/or FFS/department personnel as assigned.

Submit detailed reports, data summaries and/or manuscripts to supervisor for publication as warranted.

Perform related duties as assigned or required.
