Job Description:

The UF Surplus PC/AV Shop is the computer and electronic diagnostic facility that is responsible for the appropriate disposition and sustainability of all “information technology” and electronic property surveyed out as surplus by all UF departments. The Asset Specialist performs the following:

  • Test, troubleshoot, clean (includes data wiping hard drives), repair, configure, optimize, upgrade, and renovate various types of UF surplus technology including computers, cameras, scanners, monitors, projectors, and other electronic equipment using hardware tools and multiple software diagnostics.

  • Make ready, photograph, enter and update Asset Management database for item specifications before placing them on public auction website (includes Direct Sales). Monitor the UF Surplus public auction for item specification errors, omissions, customer inquiries and appropriate item volume listing.

  • Update and input status of surplus property data into Asset Management database pertaining to surplus property to accurately maintain the property records.

  • Assist customers with equipment through transfers to UF departments, donations to non-profit organizations, sales by online auctions, or recycle to certified recycle companies. Actions related include the following: make ready electronic items for transfer to other UF Departments; answering customer questions in all areas; trouble shooting issues; and resolving disputes when they arise.

  • Provide training to UF personnel through individual communication, direction to establish training documents or videos, and on-site individual or group setting training.

  • Support UF departmental needs by upgrading appropriate technical specifications into items ensuring departmental functionality requirements are satisfied.

Assists recycling by palletizing electronic and other equipment, which includes scanning decals into lots and removing capital and attractive decals, stacking equipment, wrapping for safe transport, and when required loading by forklift into semi-trailer or box truck for shipment to certified commercial recycling companies.

Expected Salary:

$17.00 - $18.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The individual is preferred to be knowledgeable with IT equipment, have strong computer software proficiency, and excellent communication skills.

Ability to organize and coordinate work activities

Establish and maintain effective working relationship with others

Project a positive and professional attitude with others.
