MIT Lincoln Laboratory Cyber Operations & Architectures Researcher(Fort Meade, MD) in Ft Meade, Maryland

In the Cyber Operations & Analysis Technology Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, we research challenging technical problems in cyber security, develop new technologies, and prototype first-of-a-kind systems. We have particular focus on enabling human operators and improving operational systems, orienting our work toward strong practical impact.

We work across a variety of cutting-edge national-security applications:

  • Enhancing the cyber security of critical infrastructure, weapons systems, and other operational technology

  • Protecting and defending emerging U.S. systems for conducting command and control (C2) across multiple domains

  • Helping the nation’s cyber operators do their jobs better, faster, and at greater scale

  • Quantifying risk posed by adversary cyber threats to key national security missions

  • Creating new analytics and processing techniques to create timely, actionable insights from cyber data

  • Developing techniques to coordinate actions for emerging mission scenarios combining cyber and other mission domains such as air, land, sea, and space

Job Description

Located onsite in Fort Meade, MD

As a Technical Staff member in the Cyber Operations & Analysis Technology Group, you will perform analysis, develop technology, and/or architect and build software for the next generation of operational cyber security systems. You will apply your expertise to the challenging technical problems operators and decision makers face from persistent, intelligent cyber adversaries, and define and create novel technical solutions. You will work as part of a team where you quickly learn new application areas and add skills to your technical toolbox to address important problems. You will have many opportunities to grow as a researcher and technical expert, including in project leadership, technical execution, and sharing results with the community through publications and presentations.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field; or a Master’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant technical experience; or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant technical experience.

  • Proficiency in Python, C/C++, Java, or similar.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including technical communication for non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on difficult, open-ended problems in cyber security and operations with interdisciplinary technical teams.

  • Motivation to identify underlying technical problems and investigate solutions proactively.

  • Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret-level DoD security clearance.

Desired

Technical expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired but not required, with research experience especially valued:

  • Cyber security.

  • Data architecture and engineering.

  • Artificial intelligence/machine learning.

  • Mathematical or statistical modeling and problem-solving.
