COUNTY OF ADAMS Lead Landfill Operator in FRIENDSHIP, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Description Performs difficult skilled technical work managing the daily operation of the landfill facility, assisting with building and grounds repair and maintenance, monitoring groundwater and air quality, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Solid Waste Superintendent of Operations. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Examples of Duties Works in tandem with the Superintendent of Operations in working with architects, engineers, and the (WDNR) on landfill construction, operations and proper reporting to all regulatory agencies. Assists the Superintendent of Operations overseeing daily activities of the landfill operations; leachate collection/disposal, gas collection system, waste placement, compaction/density, compost operation, and brush/wood chipping. Assists the Superintendent of Operations in performing routine monitoring of groundwater and air quality. Assists with buildings and grounds repairs, maintenance, and assists with recycling operations, as needed. Coordinates landfill heavy equipment operations. Assists in Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Hauling Operations, as needed. Assists Shop Manager/Mechanic in heavy equipment repairs, rebuilds and fabrication, as needed. Performs other related functions and duties as assigned or required. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Thorough knowledge of County and department policies and procedures to include emergency and inclement weather policies; ability to prioritize and manage multiple, concurrent projects; attention to detail and ability to effectively organize time and anticipate, plan and successfully respond to changing circumstances; thorough knowledge of landfill operations; operate and maintain the landfill gas collection system, blowers and flare system and other environmental monitoring and control systems; basic knowledge and use of portable gas analyzer to conduct monthly air monitoring; measure and evaluate leachate levels and proper disposal; calibrate and maintain all gas, leachate, and water monitoring equipment; service and make minor repairs to all equipment; inspect and maintain final landfill cover and installation and maintenance of gas collection lines and wells; knowledge of landfill systems, operation and maintenance; knowledge of gas and/or water collection, distribution and air quality monitoring systems; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with landfill operations; knowledge of and ability to use portable gas monitoring devices; ability to understand and implement provisions state and federal permits, rules and laws; ability to use and train others in the use of equipment appropriate to the assigned field or activity (forklift, loader, skid steer, hook truck and other heavy equipment); working knowledge of various computer programs. ***** APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Apply Online: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/adamscountywi
