POSITION DESCRIPTION

Wastewater Treatment Plant Technicians operate and maintain Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment and facilities. Incumbents are responsible for the operation of a modern Class V secondary wastewater treatment plant. Incumbents may be assigned to work any shift and may be required to work holidays and weekends.

This is a flexibly-staffed series, which allows incumbents to flex to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Specialist after obtaining the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate. The probationary period for employees in this classification shall be up to eighteen (18) months, at the discretion of management. An employee in this series must serve a minimum one (1) year probationary period. Employees in this classification must obtain the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment. Failure to obtain the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate within eighteen (18) months will be cause for termination.

One vacancy currently exists in the Department of Public Utilities, Wastewater Division. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period for up to a maximum of two years at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

THE REQUIREMENTS Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and do not assure placement on the eligible list.

Possession of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.

The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.

Employees in this classification must obtain the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment. Failure to obtain the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate within eighteen (18) months will be cause for termination from this class.

EXAMINATION PROCESS The examination process may consist of the following:

Written Examination: 100%: A job-related written examination will be administered which may test a candidate's knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to the operation of mechanical/electrical equipment, the operation and maintenance of mechanical/electrical equipment, ability to follow oral and written instructions and Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Written Examination to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
