Summary:

At Meta we develop novel algorithms and modeling approaches at the intersection of the physical world and computer science. By leveraging recent advances in Data Science, Machine Learning as well as techniques from physical sciences, we develop conceptually new solutions to problems throughout Meta’s infrastructure and the broader company. This role is part of our Infrastructure Data Center (IDC) organization focused on areas including Data Centers design & operations, Sustainability, Mapping and more with opportunities ranging from the global level to the nanoscale. Research topics are problem-driven and identified and evaluated through close collaboration and embedding with operational engineering and business teams.We are looking for a leader with a strong technical experience to oversee both our Physical Modeling and analytical software development teams in IDC to develop and grow these capabilities into core functionalities integrated with our future Infrastructure and the company as a whole.

Required Skills:

Director, Research Science Responsibilities:

  1. Grow and lead physics-based modeling as a core functionality within Meta

  2. Oversee our Analytical software development team and apply them effectively on the most crucial infrastructure problems at scale

  3. Highly technical and an effective people manager

  4. Subject matter expert in the domain of physics-based modeling & software development

  5. Lead teams that deliver on multiple projects of increasing dependencies in an ambiguous or high-impact area

  6. Autonomously run cross-functional programs as well as leverage external research collaborations

  7. Work with your team and cross functional partners to define and influence strategy

  8. Drive roadmap creation and execution

  9. Collaborate with various functions, drive engineering initiatives and have an impact at an organizational level

  10. Participate in technical design

  11. Measure the impact of your team and set clear expectations and goals

  12. Work effectively with cross functional partners and stakeholders to set and achieve optimal outcomes within a global organization

  13. Partner with leadership to influence and drive org design, contribution and prioritization

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. PhD in Physics, CS, EE or equivalent experience

  2. 15+ years of experience in research or engineering

  3. 10+ years demonstrated experience recruiting and managing teams, including performance management

  4. Experience in conducting and leading problem-driven research

  5. Experience driving internal stakeholders to consensus

$264,000/year to $342,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
