responsibilities:

The Mechanical Engineer will provide technical expertise in the design and coordination of complex and sophisticated projects involving the construction, renovation, and repair of residential client facilities. The incumbent monitors and tracks the progress of designated projects and provides routine reports of accomplishments to appropriate officials and offices.

  • Reviews designs, plans and specifications for water and sewage (plumbing); heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); fire suppression, control and alarm systems and other systems of major size and complexity for use in facilities.

  • Provides professional consultations on a wide range of difficult and unforeseen problems including design interfaces, regulatory limitations, exchanging information, and expediting work.

  • Reviews preliminary and final engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates of architect and engineering (A/E) firms or another government agencies to ensure design excellence and compliance with specifications.

  • Uses computers/computer software such as information management programs, computer aided design and drafting (CADD) programs, and project tracking programs to solve engineering problems and facilitate work.

  • Monitor and manage projects for new construction, renovations, and improvements to real property residential quarters facilities from start to finish, including the performance of preconstruction site surveys all the way to the completion of as-built drawings.

  • Provides expert professional technical assistance and support to the organization in the mechanical engineering field.

  • Assists in analyzing the critical path schedule for design and construction projects.

  • Prepares, reviews, and approves project documents including building system designs, estimates, specifications, and bid packages.

  • Administers or assists in administering acquisition documents for design, construction, renovation, or repair.

  • Reviews the adequacy of design, layout, construction, maintenance, or repair of mechanical systems including heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, plumbing, fire alarms, sprinklers, and controls.

  • Performs engineering and project management work to protect life, safety, health, and property

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and at least 6 years of experience
