responsibilities:

The Civil Engineer monitors and tracks the progress of designated projects and provides routine reports of accomplishments to appropriate officials and offices. The incumbent must perform the following specific duties:

  • Manages assigned projects and ensures compliance with health and safety standards, construction codes, and other federal or residential requirements.

  • Formulates and evaluates project plans in terms of client needs, including consideration for cultural, socioeconomic, demographic, aesthetic, technical, engineering, value/risk management, and cost considerations are accounted for throughout the lifecycle of each project.

  • Reviews proposed sites for projects, evaluates, and makes recommendations on the adequacy of the site, taking into consideration topography, subsurface conditions, heating systems, development costs, utilities such as water, sewer, gas, electric power, and other factors.

  • Manages the development and review of construction documents for assigned projects and provides technical assistance to others for civil and structural systems, materials, and specifications describing necessary material, equipment, and workmanship to fulfill project requirements.

  • Manages the technical portion of design and/or construction contracts as well as the administration of the contracts with architect-engineer firms. Specific duties include oversight of:

  • Architectural and engineering (A/E) statements of work.

  • Project time schedules, cost estimates, and budgets.

  • Technical reviews of designs and analysis of drawings and specifications.

  • Ensure construction project compliance with contract provisions and standards.

  • Review specifications and designs of existing systems and structures to propose changes.

  • Meet with tribal leaders, school boards, law enforcement officials, private interests, state officials, and other federal officials to promote projects, describe impacts, and to ensure adherence to schedules and designs.

  • Work with school staff to determine the condition of structures, gather precise information, and monitor ongoing construction.

  • Provides civil/structural engineering insights and renders expert technical advice and services to DFSM on all matters pertaining to facilities maintenance and rehabilitation program throughout the planning, design, and construction phases.

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and at least 4 years of experience
