Michigan Brand, Inc. Jerky Screener - 1st shift in Frankenmuth, Michigan

Job purpose

  • Working in the raw processing room placing jerky onto screens, while following all USDA and Michigan Brand regulations and procedures.
  • Preparing the products to get sent into the smokehouses for cooking.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Remove processed meat from tanks and place individual slices of meat flat onto screens, to not overlap in a single layer.
  • Follow USDA standards and procedures that are in place to ensure that there is no contamination of the product and to ensure that all products that leave the facility are safe and wholesome for all consumers.
  • Take the necessary steps to ensure that quality control is achieved.  From visually inspecting each product as it is being screened to looking for foreign materials that may be on the products, to double-checking process to ensure the procedures are followed to the Screening Standards.
  • Must follow and operate each day according to the GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Screening of all Michigan Brand Products to the exact steps and guidelines that are set in place by Management of Michigan Brand.
  • Lead, guide and train any new employees in performing related work duties. 
  • Employee must be physically present at work, on time and able to perform job duties in a diligent fashion.
  • Involvement with inventory management system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working conditions

  • 8-hour workday inside regulated refrigerated rooms (50 degrees). 
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed. 
  • Certain safety measures must be taken being machinery is used in the Room. 
  • This is a USDA environment, which means certain guidelines must be followed (i.e., no jewelry, no shorts or open-toed shoes, no hats)

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to stand on feet for 8+ hours in a workday.
  • Must be able to lift between 25 to 50 lbs. multiple times within a workday.
  • Ability to twist, turn, and bend.
