Public Outreach and Communications Specialist II

POWER Engineers seeks a Public Outreach and Communications Specialist II to join our Environmental Division which provides planning, permitting, engineering, site assessment, and corrective action services to clients worldwide. This position will be based out of the Foxborough, MA office with the ability to work in a hybrid work environment consisting of office, home, and fieldwork. Field activities may comprise up to 25% of the employee’s work week. This is a full-time, salaried position that comes with a great benefits package.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement public outreach and project communications

  • Coordinate meetings with agencies and other stakeholders for information gathering and dissemination

  • Face-to-face meetings with project stakeholders including landowners, municipal officials, and others

  • Field visits with project team to identify areas of potential concern for abutting landowners, businesses, and other stakeholders

  • Assist with coordinating MEPA and other agency public involvement for Environmental Justice populations

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead public open house meetings

  • Develop project collateral materials such as mailers, newsletters, FAQs, and PPT’s for presenting to project stakeholders

  • Manage vendors including print, mail, language translation, and video hosting firms

  • Schedule and facilitate communications meetings for project team members, including web-based video meetings

  • Coordinate with internal and external project teams

  • Assist supervisor with long-range visioning and business planning

  • Mentor junior staff as requested by the supervisor

  • Help lead innovation for new technologies and processes for public involvement services

  • Assist in preparing work scope and tasks, budget, and schedule for completion

  • Manage and oversee administrative and professional staff on tasks, schedule, and budget

  • Maintain quality control for all deliverables

  • Travel 15-25% of the time; overnight stays may be required for evening meetings

  • Work across all of POWER’s business lines to provide communications services with engineering, planning, and design projects

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience working on communications and public outreach for large infrastructure projects

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team and collaborative environment

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Proficiency in participating in web-based meeting platforms including but not limited to Zoom, Cisco WebEx, and MS Teams
