Position Overview: The School Adjustment Counselor plays a critical role in implementing our school-wide plan to create a safe and supportive social-emotional environment for students. This position involves providing individual counseling to students in grades 5-8, screening for emotional and academic needs, facilitating social skills groups, and serving as a liaison between home and school. The School Adjustment Counselor collaborates closely with parents, teachers, administration, and other school staff members to address students' social-emotional needs and ensure their overall well-being. Responsibilities: Conduct individual counseling sessions with students in grades 5-8 Screen students for emotional and academic needs Facilitate social skills groups tailored to specific grades and demographics Recommend and coordinate programs to address identified needs, collaborating with parents, teachers, and community resources Demonstrate expertise in understanding the psychology of learning, learning disorders, and the impact of disabilities on learning Assess behavior and provide diagnosis and treatment planning as needed Utilize consultation, referral, collaboration, crisis intervention, and interdisciplinary teamwork skills Provide preventive interventions to address emotional issues impacting academic achievement Adhere to federal and state laws related to student services, child abuse, and custody, ensuring compliance and due process Communicate effectively with students, families, and the school community Provide clinical services to support students and families in addressing behavioral challenges Attend IEP and 504 meetings as required General Expectations: Demonstrate professionalism, organization, and punctuality Manage resources effectively and meet deadlines Align actions with the mission and vision of FRCS Commit to continuous learning and professional growth Communicate clearly and respectfully with all stakeholders Build rapport and effective relationships with students and adults through collaboration and professional conduct Contribute to team goals through cooperation, flexibility, and ethical behavior Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards Qualifications: Required: Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling Massachusetts Teaching License in School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor All Levels or the ability to obtain one.
