HNTB Urban Designer and Planner I in Fort Worth, Texas

This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting with landscape, urban, and environmental design services. This position may support a variety of transportation-related design and planning work for major infrastructure projects including roadway, bridge, park, and transit projects. Applies established methodologies and procedures to perform assigned tasks.

The Urban Designer and Planner I (UDP) at HNTB’s North Texas office will work on a variety of project typologies including streetscape design, bike/ped and greenway design, complete streets, transit station design, green infrastructure, and Transit Oriented Development design. This position will work closely with a multi-disciplined team of professionals both within the office and externally.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conducts basic research and data collection.

  • Assist in the development of conceptual, design development and construction-level plans for urban design and landscape architecture (layout plans, planting plans, grading plans and construction details) using CAD software.

  • Assists in the development of graphics, presentation materials, and reports.

  • Assists in the production of 3D visualizations using the latest software.

  • Assists in stakeholder and public participation process.

  • Maintains records, collections and files related to specific projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Responsible for initial project research, data collection and analysis in planning, design, policy development and implementation.

  • Responsible for developing existing conditions analysis, site plans and 3D context models.

  • Participate and facilitate in public meetings

  • Demonstrate strong graphic skills and ability to communicate ideas and concepts through clear diagrams and data visualization.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of building massing and block design; urban design strategies around transit and transportation projects; site circulation; programming; master planning; public processes and community outreach.

  • Work collaboratively with others and have a professional work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or related field or equivalent work experience.

  • 1-2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Proficient in the following software programs: AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), SketchUP, photorealistic rendering tools such as Twinmotion, Lumion and Enscape and GIS.

  • Experience in procedural modeling in 3D urban environment
