Supplier Quality Specialist

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

The successful incumbent will conduct and report on supplier conformance assessments (vender surveillance), supplier qualification assessments (vendor selection), and project quality documentation reviews (inspection and test records, material test reports, etc.) for the electrical utility industry (Generation, Transmission Lines, and Substations) in accordance with POWER Engineers PQS (Power Quality Services) program. Additional responsibilities will include pre-visit preparation, scheduling, and attendance at our utility partner’s manufacturing and fabrication facilities, globally. Preference will be given to applicants that reside in Northern California. However, the location for this role is flexible, with the ability to work remotely from any mutually acceptable location (please note desired location in the application).

Required Education/Experience

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in structural engineering or a combination of post-secondary education and industry experience.

  • Valid AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Level II, six (6) years minimum.

  • Minimum of 10-years as Quality Control (QC) or Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector of structural steel or pipe manufacturing or heavy-construction where two (2) of the ten (10) years were spent as a Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector is preferred.

  • Certified, previously certified or able to certify as a Level II NDT Technician (AWS or ASNT) in UT, MT and PT or have demonstrable experience and capabilities to audit NDT Technicians and methods.

  • Certified or previously certified as a Level II NDT Technician (AWS or ASNT) in RT or has demonstrable experience and capabilities to review and interpret radiographic film of welds in accordance with acceptance criteria per codes and standards.

  • At a minimum, working knowledge and career experience of the following:

  • AWS D1.1 and ASME B31.1 or B31.3 standards

  • ASTM A123 and A780 (galvanizing and repairs)

  • Welding Procedure Specifications (prequalified and qualified)

  • Welder Qualification Records

  • Manufacturing and Construction Drawings

  • Report Writing, including executive summaries

Desired Education/Experience

  • College Degree (community, state, or university)

  • Trade School Certificate of Completion (welding, nondestructive testing, or visual inspections)

  • Certified or previously certified ISO 9001 auditor or from other equivalent organization

  • Certified or previously certified as a welder in the FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, or GTAW welding processes in accordance with AWS or ASME standards

  • Proficient experience and knowledge in other construction disciplines (soils and compaction, concrete, high strength bolting and testing, electrical, coatings, and galvanizing)

  • International travel experience in a QA or QC (primarily Mexico, India, China, or Japan) capacity

  • Five (5) years minimum in manufacturing or construction of power generation plants, petrochemical plants, transmission lines, or substations

  • Two years experience conducting vendor qualifications and/or surveillance

  • Two years experience in QC/QA of the construction of EHV transmission lines
