Human Resources Generalist Location: Fort Wayne, IN Level: Salary Division/Department: Administration/Human Resources Report to position: Director of Human Resources

The HR Generalist is responsible for performing HR related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management in supporting designated geographic regions and divisions. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations and retention, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, succession planning, recruitment/employment and employee law compliance. Travel to each assigned RSC a minimum of twice per year, attend Market as may be necessary to assist in training Responsibilities

  • Conducts recruitment effort for exempt and non-exempt personnel, conducts new employee orientations; monitors career-pathing initiatives; and writes and places advertisements online.

  • Administers various human resource policies and procedures for all personnel across the entire company; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; maintains the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.

  • Completes special projects by clarifying project objective; setting timelines and schedules; conducting research; developing and organizing information.

  • Coordinates with managers in assigned divisions to monitor and improve employee performance by identifying and clarifying issues through performance management measures (counseling actions, annual reviews, etc.).

  • Develops human resources solutions by collecting and analyzing information; recommending courses of action.

  • Travels to assigned RSCs as necessary to communicate policies, benefits (healthcare, Fidelity, retirement, FMLA, ADA, etc.) and administer required training.

  • Compile wage information for the RSC locations to assist in setting the wage rates for the RSC locations each fiscal year.

  • Compile articles for monthly Family Newsletter.

  • Develop, assist and conduct quarterly Leaders’ Toolbox training for FW and RSC Managers. Facilitate annual LDI (leadership development) training sessions, and other training programs that are necessary for all managers.

  • Assist with planning of special events (company picnic, summer nights, etc.) and profit sharing/staff appreciation banquet – distribution of checks, service awards, etc. Work with Employee Board to plan and assist in monthly company employee activities.

  • Assist with community events such as United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters campaigns, Study Connection, Dale Carnegie, etc.

    Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in a communications-related, HR or equivalent field.

  • Previous HR experience in a warehouse environment, minimum of two (2) years, is desired.

    Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to manage a variety of projects from conception to completion; training, policies, procedures, audits, etc.

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as being detail-oriented.

  • Must be a people person and able to coach employees, and managers, through a variety of situations.

  • Ability to multi-task.
