Position summary: JMT is seeking a motivated individual who desires increasing responsibilities as a project engineer. Successful candidates will be expected to perform engineering and management tasks in the site/civil engineering field through the development of a working knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards and processes; provide engineering support on multiple design projects, including analyzing and documenting critical design elements; development of site layout/grading, roadway/trail/pedestrian facilities, transit and related facilities, stormwater management facilities, and erosion & sediment control plans and details; navigating projects through the various permitting requirements; coordinating with others to determine requirements and incorporate feedback.

Coordination with clients, contractors, outside consultants, government agencies and firm staff is expected.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope

  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

  • Perform design computations

  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools

  • Develop construction cost estimates

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates

  • Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines

  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals

  • Prepare proposals as required

  • Attend meetings with clients

  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required SkillsRequired Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program

  • 5-10 years’ experience in general civil engineering design

  • Pennsylvania Registered Professional Engineer

  • Proficient in discipline specific design software including AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • A working knowledge of Federal, State and local jurisdiction permitting regulations is required.

  • Excellent written and communication skills

Qualifications Preferred

  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level

  • Experience working with multi-disciplined teams & facility related projects

  • Experience with transit/multimodal projects

  • Experience with secondary and higher education projects

  • Experience with stormwater management modeling software

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion, where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
