GeoVerra Survey Crew Chief in Fort St. John, British Columbia

What the position entails:

Our dynamic Geomatics team is looking for a Survey Crew Chief in Fort St. John, BC. Ideally, you are organized and highly collaborative, with strong communication skills and an infectious positivity that encourages this attitude in all team members. You will have a strong handle on equipment and field tools, with a healthy respect for the outdoors and the timeline of the task at hand. You believe in working safely and refuse to compromise your and others’ safety by taking shortcuts to save time.

What you will do:

  • Manage and perform field survey work with the help of Survey Assistants.

  • Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, review and manage project budgets, timeline requirements, priorities and survey methodology.

  • Act as a company representative and liaise directly with client field representatives and landowners.

  • Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in proper formats for Project Managers, Land Surveyors and Drafting personnel.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Survey Assistants.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology. 

  • Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the GeoVerra safety program.

  • Perform office technical survey work as required and other duties as assigned.

     

    What you will bring:

  • A degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary program in surveying and geomatics or an equivalent amount of related experience.

  • 1+ Years’ experience in a Survey Crew Chief role.

  • Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Including Robotic).

  • Knowledge and experience of Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating is an asset.

  • Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce accurate and legible field notes.

  • The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.

  • An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.

  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract; and

  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace

    Job conditions

  • Out-of-town work (possible shift work) and frequent travel is required.

  • Carrying, lifting, and pushing 50lbs+ on a regular basis.

  • Working outside in all weather conditions.
