Primary Function:

To provide maintenance and related trade support services to various buildings, leased and owned.

Job duties and tasks:

  • Provides maintenance and related trade support services.

  • Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to various buildings such as H.V.A.C., plumbing, electrical, fire and security, environment and energy management, Client Comfort Systems, fabric repairs, lock and door repairs, lock replacement and repining, cutting keys.

  • Uses standard contract specifications to monitor, direct and inspect the work of contractors.

  • Tracks costs and certifies contractor performance

  • Co-ordinates small projects such as renovations and moves from inception to completion

  • Performs inspections and recommends required maintenance, repairs and alterations for building fabric and systems

  • Schedules preventive and planned maintenance and maintains service reports

  • Provides input into Operations and Maintenance Budget, 5 Year Plan, Project Budget

  • Assists designers, contractors and clients to co-ordinate office space and furniture layout and cabling systems as required

  • Responds to emergencies such as fires, water leaks, equipment malfunctions

  • Exchanges information with clients regarding building concerns/needs

Other related duties:

  • Reviews new equipment, tools and maintenance plans

  • Compiles estimates for project work

  • Orders goods and supplies as needed

Supervision received:

Maintenance Team Leader

Supervision/direction exercised:

Directs and assigns work to contractors in assigned buildings and inspects completed work. Advises staff on safety aspects in buildings.

Physical assets/information management:

Services, maintains and performs minor repairs in various buildings. Operates a Corporate vehicle and operates and maintains hand and power tools. Maintains and updates service, maintenance, and client request data on assigned buildings.

Financial resources:

Purchases goods and services to $1,000; materials $500 and signs to acknowledge receipt. Monitors contractor performance and provides budget input. Uses standard contract specifications, reviews contractor bids and recommends award of same. Estimates and tracks costs of projects.

This is a unionized position with the BCGEU governed by a collective agreement. The rate of pay for this role is $32.88/hour based on a 35-hour work week.
