Program Summary

In support of the U.S. Air Force, KBR provides infrastructure security, base operations, maintenance, and repair at Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan​. Our team is focused on providing continued mission-critical support in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. In addition to base life support and facility and equipment maintenance and operations, KBR provides food services and other quality of life support. Our team was able to meet an accelerated transition timeline and ensure these mission essential sites ran without disruption throughout the contract transition.

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and performs emergency/preventive maintenance. Project general requirements include but are not limited to; maintenance and repair of freezer and refrigeration units, food service equipment, appliances, fitness equipment, HVAC equipment, testing and balancing, corrosion control, floor coverings, roof systems, painting, finishes, fences and gates, general facility maintenance. Determines replacement parts as needed. Inspect, clean, and maintain commercial kitchen hood and duct exhaust systems. Maintain, and repair the site's mechanical locks. Repair, maintain, fabricate, and install all base signage. Inspect fire extinguishers and make repair/replacement recommendations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Performs installation, operation, maintenance, repairs, and disposal of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems..

  • Must know and be able to apply the fundamentals of HVAC/R equipment and troubleshooting techniques, and environmental regulations for fuels, refrigerants, and hazardous materials.

  • May explain instructions and documentation to plan work activities.

  • Completes and reviews records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various cleanup activities.

  • Job may require moderate to heavy lifting.

  • Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.

Additional general duties

  • Acts as Maximo and Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) and Hazardous Waste (HAZWASTE) key person.

  • Performs general preventative maintenance tasks on assigned heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units, power generation equipment, permanent and temporary structures including doors, windows, sinks and toilets.

  • Performs corrosion control measures on site structures such as entry control points, force protection points, fences, gates and signs.

  • Maintains and operates the assigned material handling equipment (MHE) such as the Bobcat multipurpose handler and associated attachments, 2.5K and 10K forklifts and manlift.

  • Maintains and operates the assigned grass cutting equipment such as riding and push type lawnmowers, Bobcat lawnmower attachment and weed trimmers.

  • Maintains and operates the assigned snow removal equipment such as the tracked and wheeled snowblowers and the Bobcat snowplow and snowblower attachments.

  • Participates in the bimonthly Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule.

  • Operates and drives the company vehicles to perform twice weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays) mail pick-up and delivery runs to Misawa AB, Japan Air Post Office (APO).

  • Concurrently, completes shopping requirements at the Misawa AB commissary and exchange for the site-operated kiosk.

Basic Qualifications

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Have at least 5 years of experience.

  • Must currently hold an Active DoD Secret Clearance or be able to obtain one prior to deployment.

  • Must possess an EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or be able to obtain the certification within 30 days of arrival at the job site.

  • Must have mandatory knowledge on the principles of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.

  • Must be highly proficient in the troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance and rewiring of the site’s fleet of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, in particular the 5-Ton Environmental Control Unit (ECU) built by Alaska Structures Incorporated.

  • Should have the ability to interpret drawings and schematics
