WATTS Senior Chemist in Fort Myers, Florida

As a member of the Engineering team the Sr Chemist position is to provide support of New Product Development projects and daily operations. This will include chemistry development, process quality controls and design for manufacturing processes, electronic process work instructions and continuous improvement activities. You will also provide technical expertise and leadership for the evaluation and development of chemistry manufacturing and suppliers with expertise in quality, cost and logistics. You will ensure that manufacturing sustains the requirements and monitors the ongoing operations, assuring quality standards are met. You will be onsite in Fort Myers, FL and may indirectly oversee other employees.
You Will:
Support the chemistry production processes with by developing reliable and stable chemical operating procedures.
Validate chemical formulations and enable high-volume production of new products transferred from R&D engineering.
Document standard work processes in concise, and safe methodology for use by production associates.
Maximize product line efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, quality improvements, and work force utilization.
Implement Engineering Change Orders, including creating and/or revising process control documentation, tooling, fixturing and conducting operator training for assigned product lines.
Promote safety awareness observing company requirements and guidelines; ensure processes are designed for operator safety.
Work with the Buyer/Planner on material cost reductions on product line components and packaging and supporting supplier quality and new supplier development.
Measure and define continuous improvement to increase process capability; identify and propose alternative methods and materials with regards to quality, manufacturability, cost and availability for increased reliability and improved customer satisfaction.
Ensure compliance and integration of regulatory requirements, (UL, CE,CSA, etc.) into product line as defined by management, engineering, sales and marketing.
Be the resident product line expert in chemical quality, lean manufacturing, and safety.
Evaluate new manufacturing technologies that can meet required design, quality, and material specifications.
Lead problem solving activities and warranty cost recovery related to quality.
Perform quality audits on manufacturing processes in chemistry and instrumentation products.
Maintain records in accordance with Quality System requirements.
Participate in Material Review Boards for the disposition of non-conforming products.
Maintain the Quality System Plan and Production System
Monitor and perform tasks according to equipment calibration procedures.
Help maintain chemistry production equipment and/or coordinating with equipment suppliers.
Additional projects as assigned.
You Have:
Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.
7+ years Production/Chemistry /Quality Engineering experience
Advanced skills in Wet Chemistry
Previous experience with preparing chemical formulations.
Familiarity in drinking water and waste-water analysis
Experience with analytical instrumentation and techniques
Experience performing and defining QC tests for chemical reagents.
Experience with data collection by laboratory, portable, and process instrumentation
Familiar with general laboratory safety and chemical hygiene
Experience with Lean Manufacturing
Experience with Six Sigma methodology
