Ameresco Controls Engineer in Fort Myers, Florida

Ameresco is seeking a talented and experienced DDC (Direct Digital Control) Controls Engineer to join our team in the Fort Myers, Florida area. As a DDC Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing (and potentially estimating) DDC control systems for commercial building projects. Your expertise in controls engineering, system design, and cost estimation will be crucial in delivering high-quality and efficient building automation.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform BAS/DDC controls engineering design, development, and implementation including software, hardware (systems integration, instrumentation callout, panel layout, and construction), and systems design (integration of the various components on any given project).

  • Read and interpret documents, drawings and specification issued for performance of the control system commissioning; typical documents may include PDFs, single line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, instrumentation and control data sheets, I/O lists, etc.

  • Accumulate and/or generate methodology, lessons learned, templates, efficiency tools, etc. to streamline project execution.

  • Develop individual work-plan to meet overall project deadlines with required project schedules and within defined estimated costs.

  • Ensure understanding of assigned project scope to meet the overall engineering responsibilities.

  • Evaluate progress on project and detail changes when applicable.

  • Assist in the development of costs and proposal of change orders to contract scope.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, codes, etc. as they apply to the scope of project work.

  • Technical writing including project definition and requirements, process control sequence of operations, standard practices and procedures, scope of supply, requests for information, customer correspondence and code commenting.

  • Review job contract plans, scope and specifications, survey information, and take-off sheets for opportunities and proposals, and clearly define requirements prior to starting engineering.

  • Work with Controls Technicians and other staff as needed to improve efficiency and support Project Management and project priorities as required.

  • Ability to engineer hardware, software, graphics, as-built details, sequences, creating control drawings, valve sizing, control device selection, damper sizing, and schedules.

  • The ability to multitask and produce desired results in a deadline driven environment.

  • Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment.

  • Ability to execute Controls Engineering job duties within estimated hours designated.

  • Effectively and consistently interface with Senior Leadership and Management regarding progress, design, and cost impacts.

  • Perform other Controls Engineering duties as required and necessary on a project-by-project basis.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10-years’ experience directly working with HVAC, Building Automation.

  • Minimum of 5-years directly working on any combination of integration, checkout, testing, commissioning, and/or field support of DDC /PLC based control systems.

  • Ability to work outside normal work hours/weekends, as required (emergency service calls) when necessary.

    Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with multiple manufactures of controls. JCI, Siemens, Delta Controls, Niagara

  • Direct experience using Reliable Controls.

  • Knowledge of IP based networks and various building automation communication protocol and systems. Protocols include, BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, etc.

  • Advanced understating of DDC Control theory and applications as it related to HVAC equipment.

  • Experience with engineering design programs such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio, etc.

  • Ability to articulate issues, challenges, and obstacles to Senior Management.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and consistently across electronic means (Teams, email, conference calls, in person).

  • Ability to work under pressure adhering to fixed deadlines.

  • Familiarity with the concepts of new construction and renovation/retrofit,

  • Commitment to learning new control platforms, including the initiative to complete individual training requirements from manufacturers libraries for current responsibilities and future growth, development and promotion.
