Summary About the Position: This is a TERM NTE 36 months position. This position MAY be made permanent without further competition. May also be filled as temporary promotion/reassignment for current Army employees. See Additional Information section for details. Responsibilities As the Installation Transportation Officer (ITO), you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list: Provide transportation support services (HHG shipments, passenger travel, freight, etc) to military, government civilians and contractor personnel. Inspect activities for compliance with policy, regulatory and program requirements to recommend or direct corrective action. Collaborate with organizational, business and industry representatives to develop relationships, build professional networks and achieve common goals. Oversee and direct the work of a transportation mission. Maintain overview of transportation program accomplishments, execution and manpower utilization. Review and recommend staffing requirements in support of organizational structure and functional responsibilities for a transportation program. Provide advice to upper management/leadership on goals, policies and objectives in support of transportation logistics operations and services. Specialized experience is defined as experience monitoring and evaluating transportation support services for military, government civilian and contractor personnel; advising personnel and leadership on transportation guidance, policy and procedures; and supervising personnel providing transportation support services for the shipment of household goods, passenger travel and movement of freight and military equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12) or equivalent. This is a TERM NTE 36 months position. A term position may be extended to a maximum of 8 years depending upon the needs of management. This is an obligated position under 10 U.S.C 1586. An "obligated" position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights based on active military service, compensable injury or disability when fully recovered, or return rights based on having served an overseas tour(s). Obligated positions may also cover employees who have been on extended leave without pay under certain circumstances. This position MAY be made permanent without further competition. Contingent upon verification of the incumbent's non-competitive eligibility. The position may also be filled as a Temporary Promotion or a Temporary Reassignment and may be extended for current Department of Army employees. At the end of this period, you MAY return to your permanent position of record, or to a different position of equivalent grade and pay. Temporary Promotion may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Temporary Reassignment may be made or extended at management discretion.
