Global Agile Integrated Transport (GAIT) is a colorless (transport) MPLS network that connects each of the Army Regional Hub Nodes (RHNs), multiple DoD Teleports (SATCOM only), and other points of presence together in support of a global tactical network. This network supports training, contingency and operational missions on a global scale. GAIT provides for the successful integration of processing equipment that solves a multi-phase convergence methodology: Transport Convergence phase 1 (Intelligence Convergence) and phase 2 (Telemedicine Convergence). It also provides the backhaul network for emerging requirements such as Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Processing, Exploitation and Dissemination (PED) and En route Mission Command and Control (EMC2).

PM Tactical Network employs satellite engineers, satellite technicians, network technicians, network engineers, cyber security / information assurance technicians and other technical experts during program and project planning and management.

Responsibilities

Major Job Activities:

  • The Network Engineer will be an integral part of GAIT mission planning, engineering, implementation, cyber security and troubleshooting ensuring the availability of network services and resources.

  • The Network Engineer supports the NSC’s daily operations consisting of overall monitoring maintaining, troubleshooting, and providing additional support to NSC customers as needed providing satellite systems technical support, and additional technical and engineering support services.

  • The Network Engineer must have extensive knowledge of networking technologies and strong analytical background cleanly define it, analyze it, and relate results back to the system design/characteristics.

  • The Network Engineer will support PM TN in network architecture development, in outlining evaluation criteria, developing experiments and test plans.

  • The Network Engineer will participate in TIMs with other internal / external groups as the subject matter expert (SME). This work will pertain primarily to command, control and communications systems technologies.

    Working Environment:

  • Working environment is a climate-controlled facility.

  • May require support during periods of non-traditional working hours including nights or weekends.

    Physical Activities:

  • Must be able to lift/push/pull 40 lbs. unassisted.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in networking / telecommunications, or applicable work experience can be used as a substitute. Substitutes such as prior service SATCOM experience including 25S or 31S MOS.

  • Cisco Networking certifications preferred.

  • Direct experience managing LAN/WAN technologies or supporting enterprise networks.

    Experience / Skills:

  • Installations, repair and troubleshooting or maintenance of satellite systems; able to solve complex problems, understand the interrelationships of circuits, and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks in support of communications systems or equipment; OR

  • Expert in working with military satellite communications or commercial satellite communications terminals to include: X, C, KA, Ku-band satellite terminals; and FDMA, TDMA, IP-type satellite modems; OR

  • Experience in networking and cyber technologies and platforms.
