Description

Purpose and Scope The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely completion of payroll processing tasks, preparation of fundings, reconciliations and related reports and responding to inquiries related to payroll processes and procedures. Essential Duties & Responsibilities May calculate payments for short-term disability, state paid medical and family leave plans, including CO FAMLI, and supplemental benefit payments based on information provided by the Benefits team and various reports from ven Calculate and enter wage assignments, garnishments, workers' compensation and sick leave supplemental payments; calculate and prepare manual checks and update the system with the information; process moving expenses, performance awards, education reimbursements and severance payments. Review time-entry validation and other payroll reports to verify accuracy of time-entry and resulting pay implications; follow-up to ensure accurate and complete payroll entries. Prepare, balance and distribute payroll funding requests and associated vendor payments for all payrolls; prepare and enter adjustments in system to correct employee records. Develop and maintain spreadsheets; utilize report-writing tools to develop ad hoc reports to summarize or provide payroll information. Reconcile payroll-related activity accounts and interact with accounting to clear reconciling items; balance current, month-to-date and year-to-date payroll registers for the Company. Explain payroll and time entry policies and procedures; research and respond to inquiries from management, employees and third parties. Establish and maintain payroll records, including earnings and deductions and tax withholding setup and maintenance; periodically audit accuracy of system data. Perform administrative functions including responding to employment verifications and maintaining payroll files. Prepare month-end schedules and reports for labor costing and leave time. Enhance job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of pay provided for leaves of absence as needed. Understanding of leave regulations including FMLA, CO FAMLI and other state leave laws as needed. Strong knowledge of payroll and payroll tax laws. Strong knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications; especially Excel Skill in effective time management and organization. Effective math skills to calculate payments and deductions. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department and the Company. Ability to maintain confidential information. Education & Experience Associate's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Four or more year's experience in a payroll administration position. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred. Working Conditions Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
