Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University ( CSU ). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary

Colorado State University and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands are seeking applicants for Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance ( LRAM ) Light Equipment Operators at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Position conducts soil stabilization and vegetation management activities in support of the LRAM component of the Army’s Integrated Training Area Management ( ITAM ) Program at Fort Huachuca, AZ by utilizing light equipment and hand tools such as tractors, mowers, straw blowers, hydro-seeders, skid-steers, shovels, root rakes, pick axes, brush axes, and chainsaws.

Work location is dependent on the needs of the partner/project/role. In some instances, positions may require staff to be fully in-person. In other instances, hybrid or remote arrangements may be possible.

Required Job Qualifications

  • A High school Diploma, GED , or equivalent

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience

  • Experience with running and maintaining:

  • Small agricultural tractors

  • Mowers

  • Skid-Steers

  • Hand held power equipment (trimmers, tillers, chainsaws, etc.)

  • Manual tools (shovels, root rakes, pick axes, brush axes etc.)

  • Physically able to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity)

  • Able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly

  • Be able to follow directions, work collectively with others as a team, and maintain safe working standards

  • Proficient verbal and written English communication skills

  • The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date. Must maintain the ability to drive based on CSU’s discretion.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience necessary to facilitate:

  • Work site revegetation

  • Land clearing

  • Site preparations

  • Soil stabilization

  • Experience with land rehabilitation, horizontal construction techniques, and erosion control practices

  • Experience working on a military installation to assist in the assessment of training land conditions

  • Experience with Front-End Loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, and water trucks
