Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.

The Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology ( MIP ) Department is comprised of over 400 individuals who share a common passion for solving some of the most important human and animal health problems today. Research programs include those related to mycobacteria, retroviruses, prions, and arthropod-borne infectious diseases, as well as the diagnostic investigation of naturally-occurring animal diseases. A leader in education, MIP provides the only microbiology undergraduate degree program in Colorado, a graduate program that provides training in a number of cutting-edge disciplines, and several specialized veterinary residency training programs.

The Clinical Hematopathology Laboratory provides diagnostic services to several thousand veterinary clinics around the US and the world. We contract with every major private veterinary diagnostic laboratory and most veterinary schools to provide advanced diagnostics for canine and feline patients suspected of having lymphoproliferative disorders. We use the information generated by this diagnostic effort to perform research on lymphoma and leukemia in dogs and cats. The laboratory has 10 full time research technicians, 3 research scientists, 5 PhD students and several undergraduates.

Position Summary

This is a part-time (50% FTE ) entry level position. This position provides administrative support for the Clinical Hematopathology Laboratory. Duties include helping with billing, ordering, and data entry for clinical studies. Duties may also include general upkeep of the laboratory such as restocking items, light housekeeping duties, cleaning glassware, etc.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Proficient with word processing and database programs such as MS Word and MS Excel.

  • Excellent organization and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated experience handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally to diverse stakeholders; both written and verbal.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and in a timely manner with internal and external constituents.

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated problem solving ability.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing exceptional customer service.

Preferred Job Qualifications
