Hemphill Construction Company, Inc. Field Service Technician: Heavy Equipment in Florence, Mississippi

General Summary of the Position:

The Field Service Technician will provide heavy construction equipment for field and shop-based equipment. The incumbent will primarily be based in a field setting but may be required to work in a shop setting as needed. Perform a variety of tasks involving physical labor maintaining construction equipment, heavy trucks/trailers, vehicles, and other miscellaneous construction equipment owned by Hemphill Construction, Suncoast Infrastructure & MSI.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in construction equipment and heavy truck/trailer maintenance.

  • May be required to operate equipment to determine proper operation and safety functionality.

  • May be required to pressure wash/clean equipment.

  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools.

  • Maintains a clean service truck or service/shop area; pick up all tools and equipment and secure work area each day to eliminate potential hazards.

  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Service Manager, Equipment Manager, and/or Safety Director.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of proper use of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies used in construction equipment & heavy truck/trailer maintenance.

  • Knowledge of applicable safety precautions.

  • Knowledge of welding and use of cutting torches.

  • Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and air conditioning systems.

  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.

  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for extended periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

Required Education, Training, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of service experience in the heavy equipment, truck, and automotive industry

  • Valid appropriate state driver’s license (general operator license); must be willing to obtain Class A CDL.

  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions

  • Candidate must provide own tools

Will be required to work some weekends for “On Call” duty
