ABOUT THE ROLE

The Environmental Engineer’s primary objective is to support the Portland Cement Plant and surrounding terminals, quarries, and facilities, on environmental programs to ensure complete compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements. Support the implementation and ongoing improvement of environmental policies within the business, consistent with the corporate priorities and policies as well as compliance to relevant regulations. Conducts audits and maintains a database of training and audits. The person in this role is a team member of the facility being supported and is expected to comply with all safety requirements.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas, including contractor management.

  • Participate in and contribute to corporate and cement plant safety based programs and initiatives.

  • Interact with the plant personnel and company management to communicate environmental requirements, identify compliance concerns, implement compliance requirements, and act as a technical resource to enhance environmental performance.

  • Assist in the implementation of the Holcim environmental policies and programs, as well as assisting on plant-specific or company-specific environmental issues and targets, including the tracking of facility performance against sustainability targets.

  • Support all facility environmental monitoring and recordkeeping requirements and commitments.

  • Provide training to plant personnel on environmental issues, environmental requirements and compliance.

  • Support adherence to environmental auditing policy at all facilities, which includes but is not limited to, scheduling of audits, facilitating, and adequate and timely closure of corrective actions by working with Area Environmental and Public Affairs Manager to reach resolution on findings.

  • Identify issues that require specific research and study and address problems that limit the plant’s ability to meet permit limits or compliance targets.

  • Work with facility personnel to gather necessary information for the preparation of environmental license/permit applications.

  • Assist in agency inspections as directed and work with the facility to demonstrate full compliance.

  • Analyze the daily environmental performance of the operation and communicate results with the continuous improvement group.

  • Provide engineering solutions to environmental issues, including permitting, pollution prevention, environmental regulation compliance, training, inspections, reporting, auditing, and contractor compliance to assure continuous improvement and optimization.

  • Perform statistical analysis, prepare reports, maintain appropriate compliance records, and file required documents with various regulatory agencies within stated deadlines.

  • Function as an integral member of the Environmental Management System (EMS) support team to gain/maintain certification.

  • Assist in the arrangement and reporting of Community Advisory Committee meetings and community outreach programs.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Field of Study Preferred: Engineering, Environmental, or related technical discipline.

Required Work Experience: 0-5 years of work experience

Required Computer and Software Skills: Internal controls providing reasonable assurance of effective and efficient operations, including actions to prevent and detect fraud and protect Company resources

Travel Requirements: 10%

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
