About the Department/College

The School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems at Northern Arizona University brings together interdisciplinary expertise in cybersecurity engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, eco/environmental informatics, astro informatics, and bio/health informatics. We offer a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees on these topics, offered by roughly 60 faculty in the school, with roughly 1,200 undergraduate and 500 graduate students. Our core mission is to integrate interdisciplinary developments in scientific and engineering knowledge around computation, data, and systems with traditional disciplines to drive breakthroughs that address key 21st-century challenges. Our faculty are shaping the School\'s ground-breaking research programs and the development of its innovative academic programs.

About the Position

NAU School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) is seeking to fill a position for a Lecturer OR an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the discipline of Computer Science, with specialization in Artificial Intelligence or related areas. This is a 9 moth non tenure track position. Exceptional candidates from all relevant areas will be considered, but specific topics of teaching interest include AI literacy, traditional Artificial Intelligence / Machine learning algorithms, Deep Learning, and Reinforcement Learning algorithms . The position will begin the start of the Fall semester 2024.

Responsibilities Include:

  • The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Artificial Intelligence, AI Literacy, or related areas.
  • Student mentoring and advising, participation in department-level service, and course and program level assessment activities for accreditation will also be required.
  • Experience developing and teaching online programs and courses is also highly desirable.
  • There is no research workload or expectation associated with this teaching position.

This position is renewable based on funding availability, satisfactory performance, and department needs.

This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications for the Lecturer track position include earned Masters (Ms.C) degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or closely related area awarded by August 18, 2024.
  • Minimum qualifications for the Assistant Professor of Teaching position include an earned doctoral (Ph.D. or Sc.D.) degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or closely related area awarded by August 18, 2024.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in Artificial Intelligence or a related field;

Established record in teaching of AI literacy and/or core AI theory courses

Professional (industry) experience in applied Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning.

Teaching experience at the college or university level, specifically in Artificial Intelligence topics (will accept experience during degree program).
