Job Description

Northern Arizona University\'s Counseling Services (NAU CS) is seeking to fill a generalist counselor, psychologist, or social worker position with demonstrated commitment to social justice and established clinical, outreach, and training experience with a diverse college population. The successful candidate for these positions will be primarily responsible for the provision of clinical services and support to NAU students. Additionally, these positions may also require dedicated hours at satellite/embedded locations around the Flagstaff mountain campus. As such, NAU CS is enthusiastic about recruiting professionals who thrive in fast-paced environments and are seeking positions that will foster opportunities to build strong relationships with colleagues as well as the NAU community.

Clinical - 60%

  • Brief initial intake assessments.
  • Individual, group, and relationship counseling.
  • Triage intervention (daytime crisis intervention).
  • Consultation with faculty, staff, students, and parents about students of concern.
  • Collaboration and consultation with psychiatric, medical, and other mental health providers.

Student/Staff Training & Development - 20%

  • Outreach programming (including opportunities to travel to statewide NAU locations).
  • Facilitation of didactic training seminars for CS trainees and staff.
  • Provision of clinical supervision to trainees.

Administrative - 15%

  • Provide case management and documentation in support of service provision.
  • Participate in case conference, psychiatric case conference and staff meetings in Counseling Services.

Other - 5%

  • Serve on departmental and university committees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Counseling Services is one unit within an integrated Campus Health Services department, along with Medical Services and Health Promotion. Counseling Services is staffed with professionals from a number of different disciplines and has a strong value for multidisciplinary collaboration. Counseling Services offers a growing training program for students in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Counseling and Clinical Psychology programs and doctoral level internship training program in psychology. Counseling Services serves the NAU community through our direct services to students, as well as in consultation with other individuals and departments on campus and the provision of educational outreach presentations.

Counseling Services staff conduct their work in private office spaces; all technology and administrative supplies (i.e., paper, pens, furniture) are supplied. Staff offices are co-located with medical services offices as part of the integrated campus health space

Minimum Qualifications

Counselor

  • Masters degree.
  • Licensed or license eligible in the State of Arizona as a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker within 12 months of hire date.
  • Demonstrated multicultural humility and commitment to diversity and inclusion in organizational development.
  • Demonstrated competency providing clinical services, outreach and training for diverse populations
  • Demonstrated experience providing counseling services for the wide range of presenting issues seen in college students, including risk assessment and management, and the treatment of serious concerns (e.g., eating disorders, personality disorders)
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Social Worker

Master\'s degree in Social Work.

Licensed or license eligible in the State of Arizona as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker within 12 months of hire date.

Demonstrated competency providing clinical services, outreach and training for diverse campus populations.

Demonstrated multicultural competence and commitment to diversity and inclusion in organizational developme
