State of Massachusetts Simulation Laboratory Director in Fitchburg, Massachusetts

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Simulation Laboratory Director will provide leadership, management, and coordination of simulation laboratory experiences in the Nursing Simulation Center. The director will ensure current relevant practice of procedural simulation and clinical reasoning as well as best standards of simulation scenarios. The simulation director, in collaboration with the lead course faculty, will oversee student learning achievement and evaluation of student competencies. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to develop, implement, and revise simulation scenarios based on course outcomes. 2. Assist faculty in the incorporation of simulation into curricula, including development of educational materials, structure of the session, selection of appropriate equipment and use assessment. 3. Provide simulation resource expertise and assistance to faculty during scenario and debriefing sessions 4. Support faculty related to best practices and standards for simulation-based activities. 5. Collect data on learning on learning outcomes for simulation activities. 6. Collaborate with all stakeholders to achieve consistent, integrated application of simulation-based education and events consistent with the mission, strategic priorities, and objectives of the Fitchburg State Nursing Program including, but not limited to, excellent patient care, enhanced safety, and improved outcome metrics across the system. 7. Develop and offer ongoing educational opportunities for faculty to learn simulation pedagogy. In addition, present regular training on the operation of simulation technology. 8. Support research initiatives occurring in Fitchburg State University 9. Orient faculty and students to the use of simulation equipment and nursing lab environment 10. Develop Sim Center instructional resource materials, maintain and update simulation lab policies 11. Attend simulation conferences and educational events 12. Submit annual academic goals as requested by the Chair. 13. Participation as an active member of the DON simulation committee. Additional Responsibilities: 1. Lifting, moving and processing large numbers of heavy boxes of supplies and equipment depending on room space utilization; 2. Moving furniture, rearranging furniture (some of which is on castors and some is not) to accommodate different lab needs 3. Safely moving heavy 70-90 pounds’ manikins in/out of beds and other equipment to other locations as needed; 4. Cleaning lab equipment such as washing manikins and physical environment; 5. Locking and securing laboratory environment and classrooms; 6. Establishing and maintaining preventive maintenance program; 7. Tracking use of open lab time and resources by students. 1. Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution 2. Experience in Simulation Education and in a nursing education program preferred 3. Three to five years nursing experience in an acute care, rehab or long term care setting 4. Currently holds: Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and/or Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) 5. Current RN licensure. 6. Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodations. 7.
