McDermott Principal Electrical Engineer in Feltham, United Kingdom

Job Overview:

Principal electrical engineer required for a coordination role involving a complex power network linking an oil & gas central processing facility (CPF) via 66 kV transmission cable to a network hub including a national grid connection, third party 66 kV power distribution network and generation. You will be a senior member of the CPF electrical engineering team.

The role is client facing and requires coordinating the required electrical control system and power management system functionality and ensuring technical alignment between multiple parties, including the supplier, client and engineering team. Strong communication is a must. Experience with 66 kV GIS substations, high voltage distribution, gas turbine generation, reactive power compensation of long distance HV cables, electrical control systems & communication protocols including IEC61850, and power management systems is desired.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Facing Client and coordinating the required electrical control system and power management system functionality and ensuring technical alignment between multiple parties, including the supplier, client and engineering team.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Must have a Bachelor or Master Degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Typically has 15-20 years of detail electrical engineering experience.

  • Must have a working knowledge of IEC standards and codes

  • Is familiar with codes and standards of NEC, IEEE, NFPA and ANSI.

  • Is capable of appropriate use of computer applications and other specialized engineering tools.

  • Must demonstrate leadership, social and IT skills

  • Proficient in English

  • Able to supervise less Senior Engineers

  • Good Communication skills (meetings, reporting)

  • Capable of working under pressure

  • Able to interact with other disciplines and face Client.

  • Knowledge of private network operation with distributed generation preferred.
