OzarksGo GIS /GPS Mapping Intern in Fayetteville, Arkansas

OzarksGo , based in Fayetteville, Arkansas a telecommunications subsidiary of Ozarks Electric Cooperative, offering all-fiber gigabit internet and premium television and telephone services to Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma.

Please Note: This is an internship position working no more than 80 hours a month. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent required; must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience with ArcGIS and Trimble Pathfinder and Terraflex is a plus.

MAJOR JOB TASKS:

  • Using handheld Trimble devices to accurately locate (sub-meter accuracy) all underground fiber path access points such as Pedestals, Vaults, handholes and Flowerpots for Phase 1 and 2 fiber construction builds located in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

  • They will work according to the original build order of the construction project using construction map books and iPad map viewer information.

  • They will assist in tagging the pedestals to help cross reference real world assets to the GIS fiber database.

  • They will note changes from the map books to the actual construction so the database can be updated.

  • They will note the access address field for each path access point that they collect.

  • Performs other such duties as requested or required by the position.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Abilities and Skills : Must have better than average math skills and technical interest. Must be able to increase knowledge and skill in technical matters through on the job training. Must be able to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Must be able to effectively present information either by correspondence or in face-to-face situations. Must be able to apply problem-solving techniques to oral or written instructions.

  • Equipment Operated: Must have valid driver's license without violation, which would prohibit insurability. Must be able to operate a vehicle in unfavorable road conditions. Must be familiar with working on computers in Windows environment. Must be able to use Handheld Trimble unit.

  • Working Conditions: This position is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and/or hot conditions outdoors. Some work will be indoors in an office environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to walk and/or hike in varied terrain. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
