    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Title: Director of Curriculum and Instruction

    Reports To: Superintendent

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Summary: To provide leadership in the areas of K-12 curriculum, instruction, and assessments, state and federal accountability, federal programs, professional development, and school improvement

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    1. Coordinates curriculum development aligned to Virginias Standards of Learning

    1. Analyzes student learning data to improve teaching and learning

    1. Evaluates all instructional programs and makes recommendations to the Superintendent and the School Board

    1. Oversees the preparation of division plans and formulates recommendations for refining and improving the division-wide planning process for improving student learning

    1. Provides oversight of division services in the areas of English Learners (EL) instruction, gifted programming, and STEM

    QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    1. Holds a Masters Degree
    2. Holds a Division Superintendent License (preferred)
    3. Holds a valid Virginia Postgraduate Professional Certificate
    4. Has a minimum of five years successful experience in education and has obtained tenure in a teaching position
    5. Has knowledge of curriculum and instruction

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret education periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulation; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion; ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instruction; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to question from groups of managers, clients, and customers, and the general public.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    A masters degree or higher in educational administration from an accredite college or university. A minimum of five years of successful administrative experience. A valid Virginia drivers license.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Twelve-month employment. Salary to be determined by the current administrative salary schedule.

    Performance of the position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Prince Edward County School Boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
