Description General Responsibilities Under the direction of a laboratory manager, the primary responsibility of this position is to perform shock absorber tests according to Engineering Specifications, Test Procedures and Work Instructions.

Job Responsibilities Primary role of this position is to support activities of the Suspension Business Unit and Design Engineering groups by performing combinations of the following activities:

Shock absorber assembly, component and subcomponent level tests using MTS servo-hydraulic, electro-magnetic and mechanical test equipment. Perform tests according to procedures, specifications and instructions outlined in Work Requests. Work with test requestors, test engineers and other test technicians to achieve desired outcomes. Perform a wide range of test setups drawing from prior experiences as well as using technical know-how and ingenuity for unique test setups and failure mode replication. Ability to coordinate a multi-level test project from start to finish, i.e., pre-test characterizations, main test, daily characterizations, post-test checks, test sample teardown, inspection, evaluation and archive. Perform post-test sample teardowns using machine shop equipment such as vertical mill, lathe, tube cutter and band saw. Ability to learn quickly and apply lessons learned to achieve efficient and timely Work Request turn-around times.

Qualifications Be able to work in both a team environment and independently with minimal supervision. Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work with remote / offsite test requestors. Key job requirements: machine shop capabilities and experience, familiarity with measurement instrumentation and data acquisition systems, mechanical fabrication skills (fastening methods, welding is a plus). Willingness to learn and enhance existing skills. Must be computer-savvy, proficient with Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Servo Hydraulics, MTS Flextest experience is highly desirable. Have knowledge of the TS16949 quality system to support job responsibilities. Have experience coordinating and facilitating several tasks. Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings (for test setup purposes). Be able to lift up to 75 lbs., demonstrate normal range of motion and manual dexterity.

Education:  Possess at least high school diploma or equivalent degree (2-year Associates Degree is preferred).

Experience:  Have a minimum of 4-6 years of applicable experience in a test laboratory environment.

Job level determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage, and capabilities.
