Job Announcement

Works as part of the Utilities Design and Construction Division. This is a non-merit benefits eligible position.

As a member of the streetlight engineering team, provides engineering technical support for projects in relation to the design, review, administration and implementation process of the LED Streetlight Conversion Program. Support includes serving as a point of contact for daily coordination with electric utility companies on the conversion and installation of streetlights. The position applies engineering principles to support the engineering team with the administration of Streetlight conversion projects, cost estimates and design sketches. Provides technical support needed to maintain and update the GIS streetlight inventory in ArcGIS. Maintains and updates streetlight computer information to track encumbrances, expenditures, payments, program activities and to provide current project status. Prepares correspondence with electric utility companies and citizens about program activities. Conducts field work as necessary to coordinate streetlight work with utility companies and to verify plan information. Assists the Senior Engineer on other administration duties and performs other duties as assigned. NOTE: This position may not exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.

Illustrative Duties

  • Performs advanced engineering technical support work in plan and permit review and acceptance and other engineering technical support programs for compliance and industry requirements under limited supervision;

  • Reviews and marks-up plans and plats through various preliminary and pre-final submissions from design and project managers, using both electronic and manual mark-up methods;

  • Performs quality control and assurance review of technical programs to triage common errors and to ensure compliance;

  • Independently develops and presents recommended course of actions to resolve project issues, non-compliance and mediates sensitive complaints;

  • Responds to citizen inquiries and requests for work through site investigation, review of records and plans, research of prior complaints to determine program levels of service and recommends agency actions;

  • Reviews and approves contractor proposals and cost estimates;

  • Complies with safety competencies.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus, four years of engineering technical support work.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

A valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in the review and interpretation of technical documents such as maps, site plans or schematics to plan work.

  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills.

  • Experience in the use of ArcGIS.

  • Information technology skills including use of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and TEAMS.

  • Research skills and the ability to select, utilize and maintain tools and technology, including new technology to facilitate work or a process.

  • Ability to interpret data logically to identify sequences, chronological succession, errors and assist with problem solutions.

  • Ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to drive a motor vehicle. Ability to work at computer with visual acuity for extended periods is required. Must be able to walk over rough terrain, lift and carry 50lbs., work in variable climate, and stand for prolonged periods. Occasional field survey will be necessary. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
